The first ever International Design Expo in Harare was held from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th of July at the Cresta Lodge in Msasa. It was organised by Homes and Styles in collaboration with VHM Event Management. Despite the fact that the Expo dates were changed because of the stay away, the event was an outstanding success. There were around thirty different exhibitors displaying their goods and services, for every aspect of outstanding design for your home and garden. The public came from all around Harare and across the country. Webtickets handled ticket sales at the door efficiently and without any congestion or long queues. There were interior designers and decorators, furniture manufacturers and retailers, curtaining and blind suppliers, construction companies, hardware and tool suppliers for paints, wallpaper, tiles and sanitary ware, lighting suppliers, estate agents, a fine artist available to do commissions for your home, and even home security experts. For your garden, an integral part of your home, there were landscapers and experts in outdoor walling, paving and automated gates. In fact, every aspect of good living was covered with even cookery demonstration by Rumbi from Zimbokitchen to inspire foodies and home entertainers. (See Rumbi’s delicious, healthy and easy recipes on page 43). There was even a play area for the kids with jumping castles and inflatables from Kingdom Inflatables. On Saturday local house fusion band Jam Signal entertained the public. There was truly something for everyone. There were workshops and seminars and a great opportunity to network with other people interested in design and decor. The theme of the expo was ‘Come Curious. Leave Inspired.’ This exciting event certainly lived up to expectations leaving all who attended feeling motivated and enthusiastic. It proved yet again that Zimbabwe has a wealth of talent and resources. The expo was designed to help you ‘relook, redesign and redefine’ your spaces.
